# Layout

In King’s Candle, you remove all 2s and lay them out with alternating colors one below the other in a long, vertical row. The 2s form the foundation cards of this patience.

# Objective

If at the end an Ace of a different color lies next to each 2 on the left (red Ace under black 2 and black Ace under red 2) and on the right an ascending sequence with alternating colors up to the King, then King’s Candle has succeeded.

# Gameplay

Thirty cards are first counted off from the stock. With these you begin the patience and place them face-up one by one on a discard pile. If there is an Ace, it is pushed under a 2 of a different color. As soon as an Ace lies under a 2, the next card from the stock is placed next to it on the left with some distance. Cards from the stock can also be placed on this helper row that is created in descending order with alternating colors. If subsequent cards appear for the 2s, i.e. a 3, then a 4 etc., they may be placed overlapping on the right of the 2s in ascending order with alternating colors. The top card of the discard pile may always be used.

When all 30 cards have been played through, push the discard pile unshuffled under the stock. Now check whether one or more cards from the left helper rows can be placed directly as subsequent cards on the right 2s. In our example, it is the row with 4 and 5, these cards can be placed in the first row on 3. The spaces freed up next to the Aces are immediately filled with cards from the stock. Then the stock is played through and after using up the stock, at least all Aces should lie under 2s. Meanwhile, always check whether you can get a left helper row to the right side and thereby free up a space at the Ace again, which you can also fill with a card from the discard pile. After that, the stock can be gone through one more time. At the end, no card may lie next to the Ace on the left side and a total of eight families with alternating colors from Ace to King must have been created.

# Note

The left helper rows may only be used once an Ace has been pushed under the respective 2.
