Cat's Tail is one of the few patience games where all 104 cards are laid out immediately. This patience requires very good forward planning to get to important cards.

# Layout

In this patience, vertical columns of different lengths are formed. You place cards face-up overlapping onto the next one, card by card, until a King appears. Each King is placed in a new vertical column and then cards are placed overlapping again until another King appears. In total, nine columns are created at the end, or only eight if the very first card is a King. This creates columns of different lengths – the so-called cat’s tails.

# Objective

Cat’s Tail has the same objective as most patience games – ascending same-suit build from Ace to King. The Aces must therefore be played out of the columns so that eight complete families are created at the end.

# Gameplay

It is recommended to plan well in Cat’s Tail first and then move cards. The completely visible cards may be moved in descending order with alternating colors. But only individual cards! Sequences may not be moved, but there is some help for this. This patience allows up to eight cellar cards. This means you can move sequences card by card. But only as long as there is enough space in the cellar. The second trick with this patience is the empty columns. If you have cleared a column, no card may be placed there. It no longer belongs to the tableau. Therefore, you should think carefully and plan whether it is worth resolving a column already or still using it.
